The Underwater Winch is an electric subsea winch that operates fully submerged. It deploys and recovers ROVs, ROV TMS units, acoustic array cables, buoys, subsurface buoys and sensors in deep water, with a maximum operating depth of 5000 m.
Four base configurations are available: a variable-diameter cable towing winch and a subsurface buoy winch, both rated to 500 m; a buoy / TMS winch rated to 1500 m; and an array / TMS winch rated to 5000 m. All four are electrically driven and combine constant-tension control with an active cable pay-out device.
The body is built in titanium alloy, aluminum alloy or 316L stainless steel according to the depth rating. Cable capacity is specified per configuration, from 350 m of 40 mm array cable to 1800 m of 17.3 mm metal-armored opto-electric composite cable. The winches are designed and supplied by OCEAN PHYSICS and are configured for the ROV, TMS or mooring they serve.
